(Kiev, Ukraine)
We decided to stretch our mental capabilities while in Kiev by breaking out of a few escape rooms.
We got together with a couple of friends (C & J), headed to one of the Kadroom locations, and were soon poorly impersonating Harrison Ford trying to free ourselves from a sealed Scythian tomb. The good news is that we got the gold and got out just in time. The bad news is that (if we were in a real tomb), the locals would be very upset because we disturbed everything.
This was a pretty great room and had a good variety of puzzles to solve. With four people, some puzzles were solved quickly and I found that a few times I had no idea how we had suddenly moved on to the next clue. The room was also fairly dark, so some clues that were out in the open were challenging to find. We did not end up needing any hints, but we did ask the operator for clarification once, as we thought we might damage something. We found what appeared to be a secret door, but the operator was kind enough to tell us that the door was not part of the challenge.
Later during our stay, our friend M came to visit us (he also visited while we were in Zadar) and the three of us took on the Titanic. Well, the Titanic took on water and we ran around like rats in the hold. This was another room set up by Kadroom and is described as having a “Titanic Steam-Punk” theme, but at a different nearby location. They did a good job of bringing in many elements and moments from the film, and if we had seen it recently perhaps could have escaped faster. We did ask for help twice in this room (unfortunately), but I blame it on not having any coffee beforehand. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the “I need coffee” glint in my eye.
There seems to be a good number of escape rooms set up in Kiev, many from Kadroom, and they are continually adding more all the time. Absolutely a great way to spend an hour of your time while visiting.
