Travel Tips: Tip #1 – Flixbus in Europe

Welcome to our new blog section, Travel Tips. This will be a series of posts which can help you to plan your next trip. All the tips are from our own experiences and from recommendations of others we’ve met during our travels. Let us share some of that knowledge with you.

Tip #1 – Maximum travel value with Flixbus

While in Europe, it is not uncommon to see advertisements and buses plastered with the Flixbus logo.

Flixbus serves routes nearly everywhere on the continent and frequently publicizes fares as low as 5€ each direction. These fares are real but usually connect two nearby large cities to one another. Nevertheless, the overall cost of their service is very reasonable.

On a recent trip to Germany, we paid something around 39€ for two round-trip tickets. This was definitely less expensive than a train or plane ticket. Even for a cross-border trip, these prices are fantastic.

The buses are clean and comfortable (for a bus). Our trip was in the middle of winter and the temperature on the bus was pleasant.

We recommend arriving for the bus early, as there is no assigned seating. This is especially important if you are not traveling solo.

If you don’t mind a bus, Flixbus is absolutely a great way to travel. The luggage limits are reasonable, and like a plane you will pay extra to bring that large bag with you (e.g. skis/snowboards). As long as you prepay for these items, even the added cost is affordable.

I recently saw online that they had invested in a train (appropriately called Flixtrain), but I don’t yet have any real information or experience with this.
