Tirol Snowboarding Series: Seefeld (Video)

(Seefeld, Austria)

We’re a little late with this post but I wanted to add it none-the-less. Over the Christmas holidays, Grant and I visited a little ski town called Seefeld. Seefeld used to be a little farming village about 30 minutes northwest from Innsbruck. Now it is a popular tourist destination. The hotel we stayed at was called Krumers and was the quintessential alpine holiday hotel with a stube style restaurant (stube is a German style tavern often characterized by wall-to-wall wood panelling), a large indoor/outdoor heated pool, saunas, a full-service spa area, a chic piano bar, and wine served out on the upper floor balcony everyday.

This hotel is really great for skiers and snowboarders, as well as alpine hikers in the summer, as it’s about a three minute walk to the bottom of the ski lift. This ski lift also runs during the spring and summer allowing people to get to the peak of the mountain with panoramic views of the surrounding Austrian alps. The service was excellent.

I think I prefer Seefeld over all the other ski slopes we reviewed, Kühtai, Stubeier, and Axamer Lizum for beginner (blue run) level skiers and snowboarders.  The runs are really nice and wide with a stable downhill slope, and include a variety of blue and red runs that are easy to get to. The ski run we kept going down was also available for night skiing. The drawback is that the elevation here is lower so their ski season is shorter. When we were here, there were blue skies for all three days.

On one slope we went to (Rosshütte side), they had all manners of ski lifts you could think of: a funicular, a ski chair lift, a cable car, a tow rope, a button lift, a T-bar lift and in the kid’s area – a magic carpet (basically a moving walkway in the snow). So this is a great place to practice getting on and off each type of ski lift. I’m still not comfortable with the T-bar and button lift but they were gracious enough to stop the lift and demonstrate how to get on it every time I attempted to and fell.

We hope you enjoy our video, although it’s not completely honest because we edited out our falls.

(On the last day of our ski trip, we had lunch at the top of Rosshütte Peak. Grant is shown here with a plate full of a local noodle specialty, sort of like a Tirolian mac and cheese.)

  1. The food looks great and it looks like the weather was perfect as well. Beautiful
I loved the video & audio.

    1. Thanks! The food was good and the weather was really outstanding. We totally lucked out for that weekend.

  2. What a beautiful place. Sasha, great job with the music as Usual, and Grant on BASS, what?!

    1. Seefeld and the ski areas were gorgeous. Sometimes it’s hard to focus on where you are going while snowboarding because you get distracted by the view. And yes, I am musical sometimes too . . .
