Restaurant Review: Adriatic Dining at Its Finest at Restaurant Bruschetta

(Zadar, Croatia)

A restaurant that has not disappointed us yet, and we’ve been here 5 times, faces the Adriatic Sea and is called Restaurant Bruschetta. If you are walking along the main street across the way from the esplanade in Old Town, you can’t miss it.

We first heard of Bruschetta when our taxi driver dropped us off in front as we were checking in to our apartment. We asked where he recommends to eat and he mentioned this restaurant. The type of food served is what most people would consider Italian and is pretty typical of restaurants you’d find in other parts of Zadar. The prices are pretty similar also; but this place really stands out. The food is very delicious and the ingredients are fresh.

A good sign for us is that during the tourist season, you have to make a reservation and during the off-season, locals dine here as well. This restaurant is as close to fine dining as we’ve found in this part of town and the service combined with the atmosphere really puts this place a notch above the other restaurants. During the summer you can enjoy outdoor seating, but the inside is also cozy; the interior is very modern and tastefully done up.

Here are some of the dishes we recommend:

(Calamari Risotto with squid ink sauce)

(Homemade pasta noodles with a pistachio pesto sauce)

(Mixed salad starter)

(Fresh tomato bruschetta toast appetizer)

(Steak and potato dumplings with grilled vegetables)

(Seafood spaghetti with creamy tomato sauce)

(Cheese-stuffed chicken with potatoes and grilled vegetables)

My favorite dish is the seafood pasta made with a creamy tomato sauce. The seafood includes fish, mussels, shrimp, and calamari, and the sauce is saturated with the flavor of the seafood.

Grant enjoys the homemade pasta dish with pistachio pesto, the house pizza, and the meat sauce ravioli.

During the holiday times they add a few new cakes to the menu. We tried the hazelnut cake, which also had chocolate and caramel layered with fresh whipped cream on the side. The consistency was somewhere between a cake and a pie but it was absolutely delicious. This would definitely be a hit with hazelnut lovers.

(Mmmm . . . Hazelnut cake)

If you have the chance to have dinner in Old Town Zadar, we highly recommend this restaurant.
