Camping in the Irish Countryside

(Clondalkin, Ireland)

Recently, we celebrated Grant’s birthday by going camping. We’ve spent a lot of time in Dublin on this visit and we thought it would be nice to take a trip out of the city. The Irish countryside is super lovely during this time of year, very green, and we thought it would be nice to experience this ourselves on more than a day trip.

Because the day we chose to go was a “bank holiday” all the campsites were booked up. We finally found a campsite, our 5th try, called Camac Valley, near a town called Clondalkin. I was a little hesitant to try this campground as Grant said it looked like it was near an air base (so I thought it would be noisy) and near a rock quarry (I thought it would be in an industrial part of the valley). I couldn’t have been more wrong. This campground was really nice, peaceful, and just what we required for rest and relaxation. I learned not to only make a judgement call on a place based off of google map’s satellite view.

(Birthday Cake!)

Yes, we were really “roughing it”. So much so that lunch consisted of going to a cafe in town called “Nico’s” and ordering a cold noodle salad and an Irish Breakfast:

This campsite is right next to a large park filled with a playground, fishing ponds, dog park, petting farm, arboretum, walled garden, cricket fields, and exercise equipment. And not just for humans and their furry animals but also for little magic beings as well. There is a fairy garden complete with miniature furniture, tea table, and garden doors leading to the “other realm”.

(Modern architecture playground?)

(Fishing ponds in the park)

(Peaceful country road lined with fairy condos)

(Petting farm. Although that rooster didn’t seem very pet-able)

(Walled garden)

(Expansive fields. Cricket anybody?)

Grant showed off his marshmallow roasting skills. We bought such a cheap grill (9 Euros), that the metal started to melt. I’m really happy he didn’t burn the place down. We recommend paying a little extra for a decent grill if you decide to go camping this summer and pass on the Halford’s 9 Euro BBQ Grill special.

(Among the campers and tents, we saw this travelling hotel. Gives “capsule hotel” a whole new meaning)

(This grill has had it after 3 BBQ sessions)

We splurged on a tent but Grant and I plan to use it on future camping trips.

  1. Happy birthday 🎁 Grant. Looks like you guys had a great time. Glad your grill didn’t collapse while you were roasting marshmallows 🙄. FYI we have your package Sasha. See you very very soon 😁, I still have a secret only you and I know.

  2. Would like to see the fairy condos! Or are they invisible to the nonbeliever?
